Bristol school reaches peaks for charity

Children, staff and parents at a school in Bradley Stoke raised more than £6,000 for charities in the Three Peaks Challenge.

The community rallied round to support a group of 15 teachers and parents from Wheatfield Primary School, who completed the hike over the three highest peaks in Britain – Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales – within 24 hours, earlier this year.

The children at the school were so inspired they held their own sponsored 'Three Peaks' challenge – setting up a special obstacle course around the school grounds.

A total of £6,409 was split between CLIC Sargent, Hop Skip and Jump, the Nicola Corry Support Foundation and The Firemen's Benevolent Fund.

Head teacher Chris Dursley said: "This was a fantastic community effort which allowed adults as well as children to challenge themselves at the same time as raising a tremendous amount of money."

She added the charities had been chosen because they all had ties to the school.
