Saturday 19 November 2011 - Torpedo A - All Saints Cup
Report: Colin Dawe
Result: Lost 1 - 0

Last weeks capitulation to Clifton St Vincents (lost 4-2), was very disappointing seeing that we were 2 nil up and indiscipline cost us dearly( for which I apologise to our supporters ).

A much better performance this week in the 2nd round All Saints Cup match against Torpedo A (who are currently 3rd in division 3) saw us losing 1-0 in a match that we deserved to win.

We were more open in our play and brave in both attack and defence . One great move from Kai saw Jim whiz to the by line make a low cross that just went to far behind Dave who could only toe poke a shot tamely at goal.

In another move Fowler sent a venomous shot low in from the left Daz touched it, but it ricochet against the upright and went out. We still had to defend and some great defending by Jack earned him the Man of the Match award.

Big Chris then made a spectacular mid air volley that was going in but their keeper made a world class backward curving jump and tipped it just over the bar - trust us to find a keeper on such good form.

Half-Time: 0-0

In the 2nd half both Fowler and Kai had to come of with exhaustion (they had both run and run themselves into the ground) , Brady and Neil coming on.

More and more pressure by us came to nothing and then they scored a scrappy, jammy goal. Did we give up - no way. We pounded them Neil and Brady and Dave all coming close, big Chris had another goal bound sizzling shot pushed around the post. Goal line saves from them.

Welsh Tom and Tom both had shots. By now my nerves were shot. Then the final whistle , words can not describe all our disappointment .

What a game , we tried everything but they hung one to that lousy 1 goal lead. Still onwards and upwards !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Full-time: Lost 1 - 0

The Bristol Downs Association Football League is a completely standalone league. It has four divisions which have relegation and promotion within themselves but if you win Division One you are the Downs League champions, there is no promotion into any other league. This is what makes it so unique.

It is also thought to be the largest independent standalone league in Europe.

The Downs League was formed in 1905 with 30 founder members, two of the founder member clubs, St Andrews and Sneyd Park, remain in the league to this day.
