Saturday 15th October 2011 - Helios FC - All Saints Cup
Report: Colin Dawe
Result: Won 1-0

ONE DER FUL

This was a true cup tie, it was a first round match that all our players played with every sinew of their bodies.

Both teams attacked from the outset, in an evenly fought 1st half we missed several chances as did they, our defence was brutal but fair.

Then came the breakthrough a cross from the left little Chris went for a header their keeper dropped the ball and little Chris squeezed the ball past him. We should have had another couple before half time but little Chris unfortunately missed both.

Half-Time 1 - 0

In the second half they came out fighting (Brady was subsituted through injury at half-time and Neil came on) bringing on strikers in place of defenders and mid field.

Again our defence held up, at one stage their keeper came out and was playing as an outfield player. We shot from the half way line and missed by inches on several occassions. The final whistle went it was as if we had won the cup. A team with several first choice players missing had played so well. Selection problems next week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Full-Time 1 - 0

The Bristol Downs Association Football League is a completely standalone league. It has four divisions which have relegation and promotion within themselves but if you win Division One you are the Downs League champions, there is no promotion into any other league. This is what makes it so unique.

It is also thought to be the largest independent standalone league in Europe.

The Downs League was formed in 1905 with 30 founder members, two of the founder member clubs, St Andrews and Sneyd Park, remain in the league to this day.
