Saturday 14th January 2012 - Torpedo B
Report: Colin Dawe
Result: Drew 1 - 1

WE SHOULD BE NICKNAMED THE 'DRAW MEN'

Yet another draw. 1 -1 this time with Torpedo, but this was no ordinary draw, this was a M&S draw!

They put the ball in the net first but because someone had decided to flatten Magnum the goal was disallowed, however 2 players fell into the back of our net and the crossbar broke, luckily it split backwards and did not collapse so the game went on .

We attacked down the left Welsh Tom crossed, Scott headed on Dave's run spilt 2 players and he bulleted the ball in with his head; 1 nil!!!!

5 minutes later Fowler shot hit the bar Dave followed up smashed the ball into the net; BUT their keeper had grabbed the post it snapped at the base and the net fell and the goal was disallowed.

Match abandoned? ........ No a new pitch was found (causing the photographer to get lost!)

After a 20 minute delay yhere was still 25 minutes to play in the first half , we pummelled them to no avail.

Half-Time 1 - 0

The second half started with them attacking , but there was no way through a stout defence. Then we started what can only be described has an all out assault on their goal , in one instance we were camped in their goal area for about 5 minutes with shots raining in from all angles.

They saved a least 5 shots off the line , corner after corner was cleared. only for the ball to be returned with interest, still no 2nd goal.

Guess what happened next?? ..................

They broke away and equalised. No justice!!! we again flew at them with all guns blazing , again they survived.

Full time 1 -1

Still it was a point and our 5th draw of the season. hence the new nickname.

long throw specialist.

Incoming!!!

The Bristol Downs Association Football League is a completely standalone league. It has four divisions which have relegation and promotion within themselves but if you win Division One you are the Downs League champions, there is no promotion into any other league. This is what makes it so unique.

It is also thought to be the largest independent standalone league in Europe.

The Downs League was formed in 1905 with 30 founder members, two of the founder member clubs, St Andrews and Sneyd Park, remain in the league to this day.
