Saturday 3rd September 2011 - Conhan Rangers
Report: Colin Dawe
Result: Win 2 - 1

Points from the first game and against conham great. To start the season with a win is terrific the icing is beating Conham Rangers.

Aafter absorbing a lot of pressure for the 1st 15 minutes our 1st attack produced a great save from their keeper from a Chris Bridge shot.

We then started to dominate and from a corner by Brady, Daz got half a toe to force the ball over the line 1-0 (yes Dz scored with his foot!!!!).

Some fierce tackling from them did not put us off. Thier keeper was having a dream of a game and saved a shot from Scott which some how he tipped around the post and then from a Scott free kick he tipped the ball over the bar.

All our team were having a great game .

Half time 1-0.

I must mention our new 18 year old keeper - Chris Bryant. Chris has proved what a great signing we have made.

No subs at half time but Russ had to go off injured suffering from a chop on the knee from their no 17 who was booked for the privilege.( Mr Smee replaced him).

They equalised from a breakaway down the left. No problem Brady sheered down the right wing an inch prefect cross saw Chris side foot in after skinning their defence - 2-1.

Two more subs - Matt on for Magnum and Jack on for Fowler. Again the Cnham keeper kept us out somehow we could have won this one by a landslide .

FULL_TIME 2 - 1

Team: Chris Bryant Jay Daz Andy Russ (sub Mr Smee) Brady Kai Scott Fowler(sub Jack) Magnum(sub Matt) Chris Bridge

The Bristol Downs Association Football League is a completely standalone league. It has four divisions which have relegation and promotion within themselves but if you win Division One you are the Downs League champions, there is no promotion into any other league. This is what makes it so unique.

It is also thought to be the largest independent standalone league in Europe.

The Downs League was formed in 1905 with 30 founder members, two of the founder member clubs, St Andrews and Sneyd Park, remain in the league to this day.
