Saturday 11st October 2011 - Tebby AFC Reserves
Report: Colin Dawe
Result: Won 8-2

What a win!!!!!!! I got there some 20 minutes into the game and we were 2 nil up (I had just driven up from sunny devon to arrive in equally sunny Bristol) .

Chris had headed a fowler corner across the box for welsh tom to head in (a very unusual thing , he hardly ever uses his head) then scott hit in one of his 4 goals!!! A free kick from wide left that floated over their keeper.

Then they scored from a move started deep in their half .

Our 3rd was again from a fowler corner , russ made a diving header ;just like a swallow skimming low over water for scott to side foot sweetly in.

Another goal before half time , yet another corner this time from welsh tom, fowler rolled the ball low across the for russ(yes russ) to crack the ball wide of their keeper.

4-1 at half time

Sscotts hat trick came from a very familiar free kick from the left. Then scott turned provider an acurrate pass left chris free to slot his 2nd in. Welsh tom then side steps a defender to cooly slot 2nd goal in.

Then they scored, i must admit that for a team that was getting a hammering they did not drop their heads.

Scotts 4th and our 8th was created when jay crossed into the area ,somehow tom got to the byline with a flowing fast turn( a miracle considering his age ,he has just turned 40 and the tropical temperture) for scott to stap in from close range

we say goodbye to jay who leaves these sunny shore to join the foreign legion( he his off to serbia to work as a support worker for a n.g.o) he will be back in 16 months time . Fare well jay

The Bristol Downs Association Football League is a completely standalone league. It has four divisions which have relegation and promotion within themselves but if you win Division One you are the Downs League champions, there is no promotion into any other league. This is what makes it so unique.

It is also thought to be the largest independent standalone league in Europe.

The Downs League was formed in 1905 with 30 founder members, two of the founder member clubs, St Andrews and Sneyd Park, remain in the league to this day.
